1. Purpose of the App
Ward: Drone Detector (“Ward” or the “App”) is a passive drone detection utility that analyzes visual and acoustic indicators of possible drones using the camera and microphone of supported iPhone and Android devices.
Ward is intended to provide additional situational awareness regarding possible drone activity in the user’s surroundings.
The App does not control drones, communicate with drones, transmit radio-frequency signals, perform signal jamming or electronic interference, or provide functionality designed to disable a drone.
2. Detection Results
Detection results provided by Ward are based on algorithmic analysis of visual and acoustic input. Detection results are probabilistic and are not guaranteed to be accurate.
Ward does not guarantee:
- detection of every drone that may be present;
- that every detected object is a drone;
- any specific detection range;
- any specific accuracy rate; or
- uninterrupted or error-free operation.
False-positive and false-negative results may occur. Birds, aircraft, helicopters, insects, distant or small objects and visually similar objects may, under certain conditions, be identified as possible drones. Similarly, generators, vehicles, engines, fans, propellers, HVAC systems, wind, construction equipment and other environmental sound sources may affect acoustic detection results.
3. Subscriptions and Automatic Renewal
Ward is offered as an auto-renewing subscription with monthly and yearly options. The current price, billing period and any introductory or trial offer are shown in the App before you confirm the purchase, and prices may vary by country and store.
Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
You manage and cancel a subscription in the account settings of the store you bought it from; uninstalling Ward does not cancel it. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. Unless applicable law requires otherwise, any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
4. Visual Detection Conditions
Visual detection is designed to operate at approximately up to 50 meters under favorable daytime conditions. This distance is not a guaranteed detection range.
Detection at night or under low-light conditions is not guaranteed. Fog, precipitation, backlighting, rapid camera movement, drone size, speed, altitude, approach angle and background conditions may affect detection performance.
5. Acoustic Detection Conditions
Acoustic detection is designed to operate at approximately up to 70 meters under favorable quiet and open-area conditions. This distance is not a guaranteed detection range.
Buildings, walls, trees and other physical obstacles may reduce acoustic detection performance. Generators, vehicles, HVAC systems, wind, construction equipment, fans, propellers and similar environmental sound sources may interfere with detection or cause false detections.
6. Detection Sensitivity and Threshold Settings
Ward may provide user-adjustable sensitivity or threshold settings for visual and/or acoustic detection. Changing these settings may directly affect detection results.
Higher sensitivity may identify more possible detections but may also increase false positives. Lower sensitivity may reduce false positives but may result in actual drones not being detected. No particular level of accuracy is guaranteed when users modify detection threshold settings.
7. Map and Estimated Position
The mini-map displayed within Ward does not provide verified GPS coordinates of a drone. Any position, direction or distance displayed on the map represents an estimated and relative value generated by the App.
Such information should not be interpreted as exact positioning, professional radar data, RF localization data or certified positioning information.
8. Camera and Microphone Access
Camera access is required for visual detection. Microphone access is required for acoustic detection. These permissions are managed by iOS and Android and are granted only with the user’s consent.
Users may revoke camera or microphone permissions at any time through their device settings. Refusing or revoking a permission may prevent the corresponding detection feature from functioning.
9. Use Limitations
Ward is not a professional radar system, certified drone detection system, alarm system, emergency-response system, air-traffic-control system or certified security device.
Detection results provided by the App should not be used as the sole basis for safety-critical, property-protection, legal, emergency or similar critical decisions.
Users are responsible for using Ward in accordance with applicable law and the privacy rights of others.
10. Device and Environmental Factors
Detection performance may vary depending on the device model, camera and microphone hardware, processing capability, operating-system version, device orientation and position, cases or accessories, and environmental conditions.
11. Disclaimer
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Ward is provided on an “as available” basis. The Developer does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation or that the App will detect any particular drone, drone type or event.
Any consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded remain unaffected.
12. Intellectual Property
Intellectual-property rights relating to the Ward name, logo, application design, software, source code, algorithms, models, graphics and other App content belong to their respective rights holders.
Users are granted a limited, non-transferable and non-exclusive right to use the App.
13. Changes
Ward and these Terms of Use may be updated from time to time. The current Terms of Use can be viewed within Settings → Legal → Terms of Use and at warddetect.com/terms.html.
